I’ve been walking the Beach long enough to know that Death Stranding 2: On The Beach isn’t just a sequel—it’s a full-time emotional logistics job. When it first launched on June 26, 2025, with early access on June 24, I was one of those people refreshing the clock like a porter checking the weather. A year later, in 2026, the game is no longer a preorder mystery. But if you’re finally ready to strap in, the edition breakdown still matters. And yes, the Beach is patient. Your backlog is not.

The release times were a rolling midnight headache 🕛

Sony never handed out a neat official map, but the Deluxe Edition countdown did the dirty work. Death Stranding 2 used a rolling midnight launch, which means the easternmost timezone in your region got it first. In the US, that meant midnight in New York, 11 PM in Chicago, and 9 PM in Los Angeles. Same logic for Australia: set the easternmost zone to midnight, then do the math.

For Digital Deluxe and Collector’s Edition owners, early access began June 24. Standard edition owners had to wait until June 26. Here’s how it looked:

Region Early access Full release
ET June 24, 12:00 AM June 26, 12:00 AM
PT June 23, 9:00 PM June 25, 9:00 PM
BST June 24, 5:00 AM June 26, 5:00 AM
CEST June 24, 6:00 AM June 26, 6:00 AM
IST June 24, 9:30 AM June 26, 9:30 AM
JST June 24, 1:00 PM June 26, 1:00 PM
AEST June 24, 2:00 PM June 26, 2:00 PM

Look, I’m not here to judge if you booked a vacation day for a game. I did.

The editions: $70, $80, and the $230 statue question 📦

The standard edition was $70 and released June 26. It came with the same preorder bonuses no matter where you bought it. Walmart even knocked it to $69 at launch. Retailers offered release-day delivery with varying estimates: Walmart promised release-day delivery, Best Buy shipped by release day, Target and GameStop arrived on or shortly after release day, and PlayStation Direct offered launch-window delivery within three business days. Amazon, at least at launch, did not provide an estimate.

The Digital Deluxe Edition was $80 and released June 24. The big draw was 48-hour early access, plus a few digital extras: Machine Gun (MP Bullets) LV1 early unlock, Quokka Patch, Chiral Feline Patch, and Why Me? Patch. Honestly? That $10 premium was mostly an early-access tax. If you wanted to start walking before everyone else, it was worth it. If not, you could wait.

The Collector’s Edition was $230 and also released June 24. It came with the Digital Deluxe Edition, not a physical copy. The headline item was a 15-inch Magellan Man statue. It also included a 3-inch Dollman Figurine with a keychain loop, three art cards, a letter from Hideo Kojima, and a Collector’s Box. It was exclusive to PlayStation Direct and had launch-window delivery within three business days.

Trust me, I stared at that $230 statue more times than I’d like to admit. The Beach calls, but so does rent.

The Limited Edition DualSense was a quiet flex 🎮

Death Stranding 2 also got a Limited Edition DualSense controller for $85. It released June 26 and was exclusive to PlayStation Direct. The black controller had orange emblems and text on the front handles and touchpad, with the Drawbridge logo and motto across most of the touchpad. The game’s title card appeared in black on the back. It was a subtle piece of hardware, the kind that looks normal until someone notices the orange.

Kojima said it was almost canceled

One of the strangest parts of the whole rollout was hearing Hideo Kojima call Death Stranding 2 his “most difficult challenge” and say it was almost canceled. That’s wild to think about now. A game about connecting a fractured world nearly didn’t make it out of the oven. If you need a refresher before jumping in, there’s a story roundup for the first game, which is still the best way to remember who everyone is and why the Beach matters.

In 2026, Death Stranding 2 is out, patched, and waiting. The standard edition is the sensible pick. The Digital Deluxe is for early birds. The Collector’s Edition is for people who want a 15-inch Magellan Man judging their shelf. And the DualSense is for anyone who wants their controller to whisper Drawbridge while they deliver cargo.

As for me? I’m still walking. The clock no longer taps its foot at midnight, but the Beach has a way of pulling you back.
